A PAIR OF VINTAGE CHINESE CARVED CINNABAR LACQUER LIDDED GINGER JARS, PROBABLY REPUBLIC PERIOD (1912-1949), each made for export, of traditional form and sides carved with a familial scene of children and ladies with attendants, strolling about a garden with a gentleman elder seated beneath an ancient tree, before a distant pavilion set amidst a rocky landscape and distant mountains, verso black painted underside with red painted, "239" and a later red painted, "CHINA," height: 10.00", diameter: 6.00". Condition: The red lacquer has expected old repairs, losses and age cracks throughout, the glaze has darkened over the years leaving a more dark brownish red appearance. Expected chips, surface buildup and some marks/scratches revealing a gessoed tin body with rusted areas. Underside black lacquer is cracked and flaking in spots revealing gesso and rust, red painted numbers are old and worn, while the "CHINA" looks fairly bright.
