c. 300 BC. South Italian. Terracotta plate with hemispherical bowl and ring foot; incised decoration is preserved in the centre of bowl. The whole of the vessel is covered in a black slip, typical of pre-Roman and Roman pottery from Southern Italy. This beautiful piece would have been used for serving food on special occasions.
