c. 300 BC. South Italian. Terracotta plate with hemispherical bowl and ring foot; incised decoration is preserved in the centre of bowl. The whole of the vessel is covered in a black slip, typical of pre-Roman and Roman pottery from Southern Italy. This beautiful piece would have been used for serving food on special occasions. Good condition; on a custom stand.Size: L:70mm / W:180mm ; 385g; Provenance: Private Kent collection, formed in the 1980-90s on the UK art market.
