Gold ring with circular hoop, ribbed shoulders, round, flattened bezel with scalloped pedalling on the shoulders and red gemstone intaglio bearing an engraved scene of a satyr with two goats, flanked by two trees. In ancient mythology, satyrs are half-men, half-goat creatures with the upper body of a human and the lower legs of a beast. They are companions of the god Dionysus and believed to dwell in remote places like woodlands, mountains, and pastures. They often attempted to seduce nymphs. mortal women and animals, usually unsuccessfully.
