Mark Baker (UK) laburnum natural edge vessel 16x10cm. SignedRay’s work exemplified exquisite skill which showcased the wood used in any given piece. The pure clean lines were subtly different on each piece to optimise the appearance and functionality of each piece. Whilst the people see the beauty of each piece, they do not realise the decades of refinement that Ray being able to create such beautiful work.Being asked to work with a few of Ray’s rough turns was an honour and also daunting. Ray was extremely generous with sharing information and I owe a massive debt to him for helping me. I pondered long and hard as to what could be done with the pieces. yes I could carve it, I could as detail in other ways too, but given the ethos that Ray used of showing off the natural beauty of the wood used I turned the pieces using shapes I love and use often.I can only hope that Ray would approve.The Ray Key Collaboration Auction
