本件作品为琴高乘鲤之寓意。琴高，仙人名。是先秦时代神话人物。能鼓琴，后于涿水乘鲤归仙。《水经注》记载：赵人有琴高者，以善鼓琴，为康王舍人，行彭、涓之术，浮游砀郡间二百馀年，后入砀水中取龙子，与弟子期曰：皆洁斋待于水旁，设屋祠。果乘赤鲤鱼出，入坐祠中，砀中有可万人观之，留月馀，复入水也。 此器雕琢仙人与鲤的形象，布局构思精巧，描绘了琴高跨鲤背回首眷顾的姿态。人物情态生动，鲤与海水刻画明快，立体形成，浑然一体，极富文人雅趣。有宫廷原配刻画海水紫檀座。工艺与装饰技法，体现了清代宫廷造办处的高超水平。
