金卧兽为辟邪样式，兽头有双角，粗眉大眼，四肢伏于地，背部有骨椎状装饰。制式做工具有南北朝风格。辟邪又称貔貅，俗称“貔大虎”，是古书记载和民间神话传说的一种瑞兽。传统认为貔貅是转祸为祥的吉瑞之兽。除了开运、辟邪功效外，还有镇宅、化太岁、促姻缘等作用。传统有装饰貔貅的习俗，貔貅寓意丰富，它能带来欢乐及好运。古时常用貔貅来作为军队的称呼。
