簪的本名称“笄”，发簪便是女子及笄时的发饰，也是最基本的固定和装饰头发的发饰。明代为中国金银器发展史上的高峰，此组金簪以累丝、锤揲、錾刻、焊接工艺精制而成。在小小的金簪上刻画出重檐屋顶、护栏、踏阶、人物、花卉，细节雕刻与纹饰清晰可见。此组发饰形制华美，工艺精湛，是典型的明代金银器精品之作。三支簪身背面均刻有纪年款识，应为明代王府专属之器。
