Ca. 200-300 AD A sprinkler flask made of dark glass featuring an elongated, globular body, a cylindrical neck constricted at the base, and a wide, splayed rim with tubular decoration. Most of the flask is covered with accretions, with some areas of iridescence. This bottle once contained expensive oils used for cleaning the body and for medical treatments. The neck of the bottle is constricted so that the oil only flows one drop at a time. For a similar sprinkler flask, cf. p.153, item 308, Glass from the Ancient World: The Ray Winfield Smith Collection. A Special Exhibition. Corning Museum of Glass, Corning, New York, 1957. Size: L: 112mm / W: 52mm; 55.1g Provenance: From the private collection of a Central London gentleman; previously in a collection formed on the UK / European art market before 2000.
