Ca. 195-193 AD This bust displays nice-quality Roman portraiture, in a manner which engages the viewer. Carved in marble, the head is facing forward, with the eyes facing directly forward, with wrinkles beneath, the eyes drilled providing layers. The cheeks are prominent, the nose deeply saddled and humped. His hair falls high over the upper forehead cut with two wrinkles. The coiffure is short, with tufts. He is depicted with his full beard short, forming a closed mass of rufts with a cleft. Clodius Albinus fought Septimus Severus with the support of the Senate in 196 AD, and managed to continue as emperor of Gaul from 193 to 196 AD.For a similar style see:Christies's, April 29, 2019, lot 191.
