A group of three Chinese blue and white export plates dating from the 16th century. The group includes: a pair of lobed plates with scholar's items on the interior and dots on the exterior, and a lobed plate with different designs of scholar's items on a geometric ground on the interior and dots on the exterior. Dimensions are: the largest plates from the pair measure 1 1/4 inches tall X 8 1/4 inches wide, 3.2 cm X 21 cm. All measurements are approximate. Condition: The plates in the pair have chipping to the rims and firing defects. One of them has iron pitting. The last plate has rim chipping. Provenance: From the estate of a surgeon in the Washington, D.C. area. The items were acquired from various auction houses including Christie's and Sotheby's prior to the 1990s.
