A group of two Chinese blue and white export chargers dating from the 16th century. One charger features three phoenixes on the interior with a lotus border. The other charger has a beast surrounded by flowers on the interior and flowers on the exterior. Dimensions are: the larger charger measures 3 1/2 inches tall X 17 inches wide, 8.9 cm X 43.2 cm. All measurements are approximate. Condition: The charger with the phoenixes has chips and firing defects. The charger with the beast has repaired chips to the rim and widespread firing defects. Provenance: From the estate of a surgeon in the Washington, D.C. area. The items were acquired from various auction houses including Christie's and Sotheby's prior to the 1990s.
