A pair of Chinese doucai cups dating from the late 19th century. The exteriors feature a dragon chasing a flaming pearl and a phoenix chasing the sun. The interiors feature Shou medallions surrounded by five bats. The bases bear 6-character marks. Dimensions are: 2 1/4 inches tall X 4 3/4 inches wide, 5.7 cm X 12.1 cm. All measurements are approximate. Condition: One cup has a small area of repair and overpainting. The other cup is in good condition. Provenance: From the estate of a surgeon in the Washington, D.C. area. The items were acquired from various auction houses including Christie's and Sotheby's prior to the 1990s.
