c. 300 BC. South Italian. Terracotta skypos, with deep, curved sides, ring foot and two equally spaced loop handles; stamped vegetal decoration is preserved in the centre of bowl. The whole of the vessel is covered in a black slip typical of pre-Roman and Roman pottery from Southern Italy. This beautiful piece would have been used for wine drinking, usually during social occasions or banquets.
