BUDDHA Bronze Thailand , Lopburi 12th century Dimensions: Height 40 cm ; Wide 16 cm ; Depth 8 cm Weight: 4334 grams Standing Buddha on a round lotus base consisting of several layers with different patterns. The figure is slender and very linear. The Buddha is holding both his hands in front of him showing abhaya mudra, gesture of fearlessness. He is wearing a dhoti with decorative rim in the middle, a simplistic robe hanging down from the shoulders. Except for a necklace he is not adorned with any jewellery. Elongated earlobes frame his slender face with almond-shaped eyes and fine lips, tiny curls cover the head and ushnisha. The Buddha is in the centre of a fiery gate decorated with small flowers. An extension of leaves is attached on the top, possibly showing tendrils of lotus flowers. Two small animals looking like a mouse and a squirrel are standing on the tendril. The back of the statue is flat, the extension is detachable. The whole piece is attached to a square plinth.
