SignedRay Key Tribute Collaboration 2019Louise HibbertRay Key was such a pillar of British woodturning that I can hardly believe he will no longer be there at future events. I remember him already being an important part of the contemporary craft community at the beginning of my career in wood - it is a hugely sad loss for us all. I greatly respected him as a maker, his skills, his consistency, the beautiful proportions of his designs and high level of finish. I also always enjoyed a chat with him...or at least until he was told to come away by Liz!I decided to go back to my own roots with regards to finishing his part turned vessel. I started at University making plant holders and thought his form would lend itself to that. And I think that he would have expected me to do something a bit different with it, even if it slightly bemused him. I kept the main form, adding subtle lines to the outside and a streak of gold, but deliberately left his turning marks on the rim.I just hope that he is now enjoying a good chinwag with Bert somewhere out there in the multiverse.The Ray Key Collaboration Auction
