Emmet Kane (Ireland) brown oak bowl with ebonised rim and gilded interior 5x9cm. SignedRays Key was an extraordinary gifted Woodturner who was so generous, kind and encouraging to everyone who meet him in the woodturning world. One of the worlds icons of the 20th and 21st century woodturning. Apart from Ray's extraordinary craftsmanship, Ray was also a wonderful communicator which made him him a skilledteacher, writerand demonstrator long before social media and YouTube was invented. I got to know Ray over the years with my involvementin The Irish Woodturners' Guild when he shared his skills at many seminars over the years. When I was President of the Guild, we bothforged the links between the Guild and AWGB which are still alive to this day.The piece I receivedfor the project is a small Oak bowl which Ray had turned with a piece of waste wood glued to the base to let the whole piece of Oak be used. Ray was a craftsman and told me on many occasions that he was fond of Sculptural turning and with this in mind I decided to leave the shape and form that Ray had turned and to turn small little beads on the top lip of the bowl, ebonised the beads using the natural tannin inthe oak, sand and oiled the bowl and guilded inside of the bowl with 23.5 carrot gold leafThe Ray Key Collaboration Auction
