Two Scenes from the Palace, China, ca. 16th ct., handscroll with two paintings, 28,6 x 93 and 28,6 x 142,6 cm, ink and colors on silk, 1) Ladies in the palace engaged in spinning and weaving. Four collectors' seals. 2) The Tang emperor looking at a handscroll in the Imperial garden. An orchestra of palace ladies accompanies him with music. Two officials and three guardians wait in a corner of the garden while his entourage with the Imperial horse is waiting outside the garden door. Seven collectors' seals on this part of the scroll. Very fine and delicate painting with interesting details like the tent of the emperor, the beautiful garden rocks and the garden fence with flowers. The garments of the ladies are depicted very meticulously and accurate. The men wear typical clothing of the Tang dynasty - Property from an old German private collection, mostly assembled in the 1970's - Wear, damages due to age
