此件铜牛跪卧于地，通体鎏金嵌松石，头部高昂，双耳后张，单腿按地，意甚警觉。其嘴微微张开，似正低哞，实设计为流滴，背穿一孔以注液，掏腹中空以储水，构思相当巧妙。
卧牛完全采象生法制成，将耕牛的形象刻画得生动传神，鼻绳和尾部均精雕细节，状写入微。通体鎏金装饰，莹黄厚实，局部略褪，露出铜骨及青锈，有斑斓古朴之美。
