款识：“大明宣德年制”
宋人洪刍在《香谱》中载：“香兽以涂金，为狻猊、麒麟、凫鸭之状，空中以然（燃）香，使烟自口出，以为玩好。”此件甪端铜质，局部鎏金，由于年代久远，部分鎏金已脱落，但从残存的鎏金来看，可以想象当初富丽堂皇的视觉效果，整体做工精致，具有清宫制器风格。甪端熏炉为古代熏炉中的经典造型。甪端呈站立状，独角，嘴张开，四足踏蛇，蛇形为底托，威风霸气。内部中空以盛放香料，兽头为盖，头部与腹部有铜环相连，可自由开合。焚香时袅袅青烟从甪端嘴中冉冉升腾，意境幽深。
