Large 19th century Delft porceleyne fles - Royal Delft - wall plaque/charger of a woman seated looking out at sea waiting for her love. This is large charger, almost like a bowl, made by the famous Royal Delft (De Porceleyne Fles) factory in 1the 1890's I believe. The plate measures 15.75" in diameter. It is marked with the standard Royal Delft underglaze blue marks and the round, incised Joost Thooft and Labouchere mark, along with the painted initial "S" of the Royal Delft artist who painted it. This could possibly have been another way that Leon Senf signed pieces, but that is unclear according to the experts. The scene is of a woman sitting beside the shore, with sailboats in the distance. Possible that the structure to the right in the background might be a tombstone, so it could be that the woman is mourning the loss of her husband at sea or she is just waiting for him to return. The scene is copied from an original painting by the Dutch Hague School artist David Adolph Constant Artz and "naar (after) Artz" is reflected on the plate. This beautiful wall plate is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs of any kind some crazing which is normal.
