Offered for sale is a sensational pair of circa 1820 shell-shaped serving dishes made by Coalport. A gilt enhanced cobalt border frames a large concave surround which features hand painted flower sprigs and bouquets intertwined with gilt vines. The center is framed again in cobalt with a flower bouquet in the center. The painting is both intricate and superbly executed. Coalport was at the top of its game in the early 19th century having been recognized as one of the best china producers of Great Britain. They already had a large inventory of fabulous designs in their factories and had won several prestigious awards for their artistry and excellent products. The beautiful enamels and workman used in these early wares still endears Coalport to collectors today. They are both in excellent condition, as beautiful today as they were 200 years ago. The incredible enamels are still vibrant. Size: 9 ½” Length by 8 ½” Width.
