Description
Translation provided by Youdao
These dry-bodied "Felspathic" stonewares were popular in the early nineteenth century, and often generically, if inaccurately referred to as "Castleford" after that maker. They were, however made by a number of the Staffordshire area potters. This teapot has an oval shape, relief classical and leaf motifs, and bright blue enamel striping. The relief on one side is of a young boy with a lion, on the other is a scene of two boys with a torch. There is a band of floral form medallions forming a scalloped collar. The lid is hinged, and appears to have its original mechanism. No maker's mark. A close example (also unattributed) is shown in Berthoud & Maskell's "Directory of British Teapots". English, ca. 1810. Size: Approximately 10" long, 5" wide, 5.5" high. Condition: Excellent, with only some flecks to enamel. No other chips, cracks or repairs. Note that I try to be conservative about condition descriptions, carefully noting any flaws. Of course, with antique items, there will be some signs of usage, and/or manufacturing defects. But overall, my customers have always been pleasantly surprised upon receiving their items, and of course, Returns are no problem if I happen to miss anything.
