此件山型笔架，小器大样。以精铜制成，山石嶙峋，其皴法为元代山水画法，山势陡峭，各山峰相对独立，右侧山势趋缓，底侧空隙处实为流水之形。此件笔架甚是少见奇特，于文人之器中难得一见。看铜山笔架犹如微缩之太行山，但其立体形象更具特色。
元明之际，铜制文房用具、人物塑像、陈设器等大为兴盛，其中制成山水因明文人多有书画之源，是为多种题材丰富其文玩，此件拍品尺寸小巧宜于文房陈设者，不为多见。
