A Roman bronze two-part hinged mirror, Ca. 1st century AD, Mirror composed of two hinged circular discs. The interior of each disc has polished silvering for reflection, the exterior is decorated with a few concentric lathe-turned rings. Both discs have a movable omega-shaped handle inserted on each end trough a looped appliqué, the appliqués on the upper disc in the form of theatre masks. To the hinge another movable arching handle is attached for suspension. Diameter of discs: ca. 12 cm. One of the hinge halves had broken off and shows an earlier restoration. Otherwise excellent condition with natural green patina. Provenance: -Collection of Art Historian Prof. Dr. Albert Blankert, The Hague. -Purchased in 2007 at TEFAF Maastricht from Kunsthandel Mieke Zilverberg (Amsterdam). Cf.
