Ca. 25-220 AD An earthenware tomb tile in the form of a house or shrine decorated with a ridged profile head of a protruding deer in a stylised manner with large gazing eyes, long ears, and tall antlers. A large hole has been carved horizontally through the undecorated sides and on the base; these would have been used during the casting process to fill the mould with clay.For similar see:The British Museum: Accession Number: 1914,0512.4.This piece has been precisely dated by means of a Thermo Luminescence analysis carried out by Ralf Kotalla, an independent German Laboratory. The samples collected date the piece to the period reflected in its style, whilst also showing no modern trace elements. The TL certificate with its full report will accompany this lot.
