By VD Brenner; 1903 was the 400th Anniversary of Vespucci’s claim that North and South America were not India but were new continents; hence the name America given to the new continents. This was the 15th medal issued by the ANS and shows Vespucci facing right with a map in hand and some of the depicted new world. Reverse shows as map of the world by Martin Waldseemuller a contemporary map maker in Vespucci’s time. #7/59 made in bronze, almost twice as rare as the silver version, and signed by Brenner on both sides.
