A group of two Chinese blue and white bowls dating from the 16th or 17th century. The small bowl has lotuses decorating the interior and exterior. The larger bowl has scholar's objects on the exterior and a mythical beast on the bottom. Dimensions are: the larger bowl measures 3 inches tall X 6 inches wide, 7.6 cm X 15.2 cm. All measurements are approximate. Condition: The smaller bowl is in overall good condition with firing defects throughout. The larger bowl has a hairline and rim chipping. Provenance: From the estate of a surgeon in the Washington, D.C. area. The items were acquired from various auction houses including Christie's and Sotheby's prior to the 1990s.
