A Russian gilded silver and cloisonné enamel casket, Khlebnikov, Moscow, 1884. Of trunk form with a domed lid and swing handles, the body of heavy gauge and good weight, the surfaces covered with brightly-colored Neo-Byzantine ornament within floriated borders, the shaped hasp with conforming ornament, the lid and sides applied with bezel-set emerald-cut green and red pastes simulating gemstones, the interior gilded. Struck on underside with maker's mark with Imperial warrant, 88 silver standard, Dutch control mark, and scratched inventory number. Dimensions: 4 x 7 1/4 x 4 1/8 in. (10.1 x 18.4 x 10.3 cm).
