生於臺北土城。國立台灣師範大學美術研究所碩士，現任國立臺北藝術大學美術系所教授、美術史研究所所長、美術學院院長。主授水墨創作、書畫論、篆刻等。曾客座愛爾蘭藝術設計學院教授，國展、省展、縣市美展、國家藝文、公共藝術等評審委員。因幼承庭訓，九歲即習書畫，沉潛融會，遂奠定筆墨功夫。教學與創作三十年，主張入法出法，以樹立個人風格。作品以水墨、書法、篆刻三者兼擅。其特色具有筆墨韻味、解構造形、新法新境等。 林章湖（朱）。
