勒子，又称蜡子，渊源甚早，春秋战国以迄汉代尤其盛行，早期与玉璜、串珠相配合的玉组佩装饰之物，后期挂于胸前或腰间的玉饰。此件玉勒满身红棕色沁色，应为商周素勒。虽为玉质，远观已难以识别，但手握温润，致密细腻，是古玉之中的上等用料，高古气息浓厚。虽为老料，但宋人在外壁刻划菱形博古云纹，整齐排列，描绘地一丝不苟，道法细腻，值得品玩。此类沁色深厚而赋予变幻，即是传说中的老土大红，为二次受沁，深受资深藏家的追捧。
