提要：是书为按《资治通鉴》体例叙述宋、辽、金、元历史的编年体通史，上起宋太祖建隆元年与《资治通鉴》相衔接，下迄元顺帝至正三十年，较《通鉴后编》多三年。由主编毕沅延请史学家名家钱大昕、邵晋涵、章学诚、洪亮吉、黄仲则等共同纂修。张之洞评“宋、元、明人续《通鉴》甚多，有此皆可废”。书首镌有“光绪二十九年珠江同馨书局刊”牌记。目录前刊清光绪二十九年陈元钊序，述本书刊刻源流。此书多为同治江苏书局补刊嘉庆冯集梧本，此珠江同馨书局本稀见。全书完帙，老装未衬。
