Ca. 350 BC. A black glaze olpe featuring a bulbous body that sits atop a low flared base, creating a sense of stability and proportion. The broad mouth of the vessel is perfect for pouring liquids, while the single handle connects the shoulder with the rim, allowing for easy transport. The main body of the olpe is decorated with a matte light orange pattern of radiating strokes, horizontal linear and dotted bands, and a central register of chevrons. These decorative elements help to break up the visual monotony of the vessel's surface and give it a dynamic, kinetic quality. The olpe was a common vessel used for storing and pouring liquids in ancient Greece. It was typically made of clay and varied in size and shape, depending on its intended use.
