Ca. 100-200 AD. A stunning gold finger ring of a flat-section hoop with nicely decorated shoulders and a bezel set with a carnelian intaglio depicting a left-facing female bust, flanked by quiver and arrows. The latter led to identifying this female portrait as a depiction of the Roman goddess Diana (Greek Artemis). In Roman art, Diana usually appears as a huntress with a bow and quiver, accompanied by a hound or deer. Size: D: 21.18mm / US: 11 5/8 / UK: X; 5.68gProvenance: Private London collection; British art market 1990s.
