Ca. 600-800 AD. A pottery bowl with black lines of inscription spiraling around the interior. These bowls were usually inscribed with sets of magical symbols, which have been interpreted as prayers and spells. They were commonly used for healing and protection purposes, with the aim of curing illness, repelling demons, and averting danger. Cf.
