Third Intermediate Period to Late Period, ca. 1070-332 BC. A glazed composition amulet of Nefertum, the Egyptian god of health and perfume, and one of the few Egyptian gods to be depicted with a human face. He is typically identified by his distinctive tall hat. The amulet features a smooth and lustrous surface and vibrant colour. The figure of Nefertum is depicted in exquisite detail, with his human face and distinctive hat clearly visible. Nefertum is often associated with the sun and was believed to have been born from the sun god Ra's forehead. As the god of health and perfume, he was believed to possess healing powers and was often invoked in medical treatments and rituals. The use of perfume and fragrances was also an important part of ancient Egyptian culture, and Nefertum was believed to have played a role in this as well. The amulet's small size and portable nature suggest that it may have been worn or carried by an individual as a personal talisman or amulet. It may have been used to seek Nefertum's protection and healing powers, or as a symbol of devotion to the god. Cf.
