Ca. 300 BC - 200 AD. This exquisite terracotta vessel is characterized by its bulbous body and broad rim, which rests on a flared pedestal foot. The exterior of the vessel is adorned with a finely detailed decoration that comprises several red lines meandering across the surface, giving it a unique and striking appearance. A similar example of this bichrome style can be found in The Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, Accession Number S2004.23. This piece has been precisely dated by means of a Thermo Luminescence analysis carried out by Ralf Kotalla, an independent German Laboratory. The samples collected date the piece to the period reflected in its style, whilst also showing no modern trace elements. The TL certificate with its full report will accompany this lot.Size: L:335mm / W:215mm ; 3.71kgProvenance: From the collection of a London gentleman; formerly acquired in early 2000s in Belgium; previously in 1970s European collection.
