This antique oyster plate has an interesting mold. There are ridges along the center sauce well and ridges between the wells and the two small wells for shellfish in addition to the center sauce well. The mold has oval raised "dots" arranged in bands along the border of the plate. The mold allows for hand painting unique to this oyster plate. It appears that turquoise fills in the spaces between the ridges and dots giving a striped effect in the center area and a dotted effect in the bands along the edge. The five oyster wells are edged in brown and white. The markings on the shells are a creamy pink. On the back is a green mark "H & Co," underlined once which dates the plate to 1877. There is a red ring with "Haviland & Co. Limoges." The gold luster border of the oyster plate shows a little wear. There are no chips, hairlines, or repairs.
