器以白玉制成，冠呈长方体，冠内掏空，内壁打磨匀净，冠顶呈弧形，两侧碾琢成卷云状，造型古朴，工艺高超，前后两面有对称的圆形穿孔。 冠是古人头上所用之饰，被称为“首服”。其诞生之初是为保暖装饰，其后便渐渐演变称为具有礼制意义的器。束发冠是古代男子用以约发之小冠，常常在闲居之时使用，出现于唐五代时期，宋代使用渐多，明代则尤为盛行。其精致者常常以玉石制成，有梁冠状、莲花状等等之类，使用时扣覆在发髻之上，用簪子以固定。
