拍品造型挺拔，釉面莹润。外壁通以青花为饰，颈部绘郁金香纹，腹部绘百里奚饲牛拜相图，手中牵牛、持书跪于地上的人是百里奚，与访贤的官员交谈，身后仆从推车捧印，携带名贵的绸缎。周围山石花树各具秀色，尤其是柳树树干、树叶的画法颇具时代特色。人物传神，画面生动。整器构图合宜，人物姿态各异，绘工精湛细腻，青花发色深沉。
百里奚，姜姓，春秋虞国人，字子明，号五羖大夫。春秋时期著名政治家、思想家。饲牛拜相的故事是其于楚国养牛，被秦穆公听闻其才，欲重金赎回。秦国谋臣却说楚成王令其养牛，自然不知其才，重金恐变，不妨即以奴隶市价五张黑羊皮换之，故其号曰五羖大夫。百里奚终归秦国，秦穆公拜其为相并委以重任，终于成就一番事业。然而本品所绘百里奚饲牛拜相人物故事，极易误读为崇祯时期流行的另一个故事—“丙吉问牛”。
