Ca. 1800 ADA carnelian intaglio of ovoid form, skillfully incised with a depiction of God Mars wearing his military attire, set in an elaborately ornamented gold brooch setting composed of a twisted inner border and an openwork design made of fine coils decorated with filigree, and six coral cabochons alternating with floral-shaped plaques topped with three granules. Pin and catch plate to the reverse. Mars is the god of war in Roman religion and mythology and his Greek counterpart is Ares.
