铭文：“胡文明制”篆书款 此件香盒以黄铜制成，盒身扁圆，子母口，口对接处皆起线，矮圈足。盒盖盒身身以六边形为地，其上浮雕花虫图，并施鎏金工艺。盒底有“胡文明制”四字篆书款。
胡文明系明代万历年间云间人，擅长制做铜炉及手炉，艺高工精。《云间杂志》云：“郡西有胡文明者，按古式制、鼎、尊、卣之类极精，价亦甚高，誓不传他姓。时礼帖称胡炉，后亦珍之。”所制铜炉表面多装饰山水、花卉、法器、瑞兽等图案，并于其上鎏金，与当时明代铜炉注重素雅的风格迥异。明清之际胡文明炉声名甚盛，时称“胡炉”，此件作品制作精良，保存完好，实为藏家所珍重。
