Green/Aubergine-glazed "Dragon" BowlChina, late Qing/Republic period, with slightly everted rim, resting on a straight foot, decorated with two dragons, each in pursuit of a flaming pearl above rolling water, six-character Qianlong mark on base, with wood stand, ht. 2 5/8, mouth rim dia. 5 7/8 in. Provenance: A family heirloom collection mostly formed in the 1900-20s by Dr. Frederick Whiting (1821-1946). Dr. Whiting was a philanthropic otologist/professor of Clinical Surgery in Otology at Cornell University who authored the book, Modern Mastoid Operation. He was also known as a collector of American painting, medallic art, and Asian porcelain.
