Copy 4/5.Drypoint engraving on paper.Signed and justified in the lower area.Size: 59 x 39 cm (print); 62,5 x 42,5 cm (paper); 83 x 62 cm (frame).Stanley William Hayter is considered one of the leading printmakers of the 20th century, as well as being known as the founder of "Atelier 17" in Paris in 1927 and for creating an innovative colour printing technique ("Hayter technique").A graduate in chemistry and geology from King's College London, he exhibited paintings and drawings in London in 1925. The following year he moved to Paris, where he learned etching with Józef Hecht, who helped him to acquire a press, and in 1927 he opened his studio (moved in 1933 to 17 Rue Champagne-Première), which was known internationally as "Atelier 17" and enjoyed the collaboration of masters such as Joan Miró, Pablo Picasso, Kandinski, etc., who appreciated him not only for his work, but also for the quality of his work, who appreciated him not only for his quality in graphic production or teaching, but also because he put himself at the service of each artist, encouraging research and the different personal particularities in printmaking. His artistic style associated him with the surrealists in Paris, and in the United States he was an innovator in the abstract expressionist movement; in 1940 he set up "Atelier 17" in New York, returning to Paris ten years later (he kept the New York studio until 1955).
