A Finely Carved Fruitwood Casket. Abadeh, Qajar Iran, 19th century. Of rectangular shape and rounded edges, the flat top finely carved with intertwined floral garlands, the center with a large floral medallion with a flower spray, each corner set with a small floral medallion encircled by garlands, on a floral meander ground, the whole bordered by a band of palmettes, the sides of the box carved with a similar decoration, the interior lined with a later added velvet cloth, fitted with modern hinges. Measurement: 30.5 x 20.5 x 9.5 cm. For similar examples, please see Christie's South Kensington, 24th April 2015, lot 174; and a box in the V&A Museum collection (inv. no. 861:1-1889).
