Lower bowl with Höroldt chinoiserieMeissen. Sword mark, circa 1725/30, gold painter s numeral "45.", indistinct black collection number with sidenote "W.". HÖROLDT, attributed to Johann Gregorius(1696 Jena - 1775 Meissen) Polychrome painted, gold decorated. Ø 12 cm. 71 g. Sub-dish depicting a Chinese man sitting at the table with compasses, measuring a globe. Dog-like animal running in front of the table. Green grass base with Indian flower perennial, above the figure flying insects. The scene is framed by a gold cartouche with bandelwork and chandelier fields as well as finely painted foliage in iron red and purple. At the edge of the bowl surrounding gold lace border The extremely virtuoso, loose and lively painting, the perfect drapery and the plasticity of the painting, which gets along without bordering lineament, speak just as the expressive hands and the perfect mastery of the motif of movement for the fact that the painting should come from the hand of Johann Gregorius Höroldt. Also the unrivaled loose, partly watercolor-like transparent painting (blue tablecloth and patterning of the wide robe) are - as well as the humorously depicted, mythical animal-like dog - signs of Höroldt s inexhaustible ingenuity. Comparable pieces can be found in the Dresden State Art Collections, the Belvedere Palace Weimar Art Collections and the Dr. Ernst Schneider Collection, Lustheim Palace, among others. Provenance : Thuringian family property.
