The deep rounded sides rising from a straight circular foot ring to a gently everted mouth, decorated in bright shades of underglaze blue, painted to the exterior with a nighttime scene depicting figures outside under a crescent moon and constellations of stars, a couple huddle together, the man holding a candle in an outstretched hand, a lady stands beside a censer issuing a fine plume of smoke, surrounded by gnarled trees and rockwork, painted to the well with a lady seated on a stool holding a sprig of blossom, the rim with the bajixiang (‘Eight Buddhist Emblems’), the glazed base with the four charactermendation mark within a double circle in underglaze blue. Period: Kangxi (1662‑1722). Diameter: 15.5 cm.
