A Wedgwood Portland jasperware stoneware pottery vase, 19th century, England, A dark blue jasper dip with white relief classical figures, marked with an impressed Wedgwood mark and the impressed letters WOP . This model was the first model that Josiah Wedgwood created when his factory pioneered the jasperware technique in an attempt to reproduce (in pottery) the Roman cameo glass vase, the so called Portland vase, now in the British Museum. H 20,5 cm, D 14 cm, Good condition. A few discoloured hairlines to some of the white relief figures (see close-up photos). Apart from that: no chips, no cracks or hairlines and no restoration.
