Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A hand-built pottery female of sizable form standing nude atop delineated legs. Highly burnished and covered in dark red slip, the woman holds both arms out at her sides and has perky breasts, dozens of protruding scarification nodules on each shoulder, and a squat neckline. Her enlarged head bears generously lidded ovoid eyes, a tall, triangular nose, parted lips revealing 2 rows of incised teeth, and curved ears, all beneath a simple cap that rests high on the tall forehead. Applied white pigment accentuates her face, shoulders, and arms. Size: 10.5" W x 16.2" H (26.7 cm x 41.1 cm) Provenance: ex-Nancy and Dr. E.F.
