Description
Translation provided by Youdao
Northwestern Europe, Viking period to Medieval period, ca. 800 to 1300 CE. A fine group of 3 forged-iron farming or utilitarian tools including a hammer head, an adze blade, and a mattock or pickaxe shaped chisel head. While a forged-iron adze head could till and move earth, the petite sizes of these chisel blades indicate more intricate work such as woodworking or shaping mud bricks, wedging, and scraping. The pickaxe and hammer have circular socketing holes set in the center, and the spade-shaped adze tool has a socket form via folding the sides inward. These would have been important to anyone doing manual labor and were made to last, as their preserved forms can attest to, the surfaces of all are coated with a thick russet and dark brown patina. Size of largest blade: 3.75" L x 1" W (9.5 cm x 2.5 cm); 3.75" H (9.5 cm) on included custom stand. Provenance: private Superior, Colorado, USA collection All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
