Western Europe, probably Italy, Renaissance to Early Modern Period, ca. mid to late 17th century CE. A stunning gold ring comprised of a slender, ribbon-form band and a sizeable, carnelian signet of octagonal form. Boasting a rich hue of crimson, the signet is skillfully hand-carved with a coat of arms, comprised of an oval-shaped shield known as a cartouche containing a central fess of 2 barrulets and 3 rosettes, flanked by 2 lozenges above and 1 below. Scrolling flourishes surround the impressive shield. A tiered frame of gold surrounds the signet, contrasting nicely with the rich red carnelian.
